By Momof2Boyz — Repeating myself since motherhood began
There is a special kind of frustration that comes with being a mom in a house where apparently…
your voice is background noise.
You can ask nicely.
You can remind gently.
You can repeat yourself calmly.
You can say it five different ways.
And somehow…
Nothing happens.
No one moves.
No one responds.
No one even looks up.
But the second you finally snap and yell like someone who has been pushed to the edge?
Suddenly everyone can hear perfectly.
Amazing.
The Calm Version of Mom Is Often Ignored
This is what makes it so frustrating.
Because most moms don’t start at a scream.
We start with:
“Please pick that up.”
“Go brush your teeth.”
“Shoes on.”
“Clean your room.”
“Stop bothering your brother.”
“I asked you already.”
And we say it:
calmly
politely
repeatedly
with increasing eye twitch energy
But still…
Nothing.
It’s like speaking into the void.
Then You Finally Yell… and Somehow You’re the Problem
After being ignored for the tenth time, eventually the volume changes.
Now it’s:
“I SAID GO BRUSH YOUR TEETH!”
And suddenly everyone reacts like you’re the unreasonable one.
Now the kids are shocked.
Now they’re upset.
Now they’re saying:
“Why are you yelling?”
“You’re so mean.”
“I was gonna do it!”
Were you though?
Because I’ve been asking since last season.
The Pushback Comes So Easy
Another thing nobody prepares you for:
How comfortable kids are arguing with Mom.
They will:
debate everything
negotiate basic tasks
question every instruction
roll their eyes
talk back with shocking confidence
ignore you mid-sentence
The audacity is honestly impressive.
You say:
“Please clean this up.”
And somehow it becomes a courtroom trial.
But Dad Walks In… and Miracles Happen
Now let’s talk about the part that really sends moms over the edge.
Because somehow…
Dad walks into the room and suddenly everyone remembers how listening works.
He says one sentence:
“Go do what Mom said.”
And now they move.
Immediately.
No debate.
No eye roll.
No dramatic collapse onto the floor.
Oh.
So hearing was never the issue.
Interesting.
Why Is Mom the Default for Everything?
And while we’re here…
Why is Mom also the first person asked for everything?
You can be:
carrying groceries
holding laundry
cooking dinner
cleaning something gross
physically using both hands
And a child will still walk past another available adult and ask:
“Mom, can you open this?”
Sir.
Your father is standing right there with empty hands and full motor skills.
Why are we doing this?
The Random “Mom. Mom. Mom.” for No Reason
This deserves its own section.
Because kids love saying:
Mom
Mom
Mom
Mommy
Mommmmm
With absolutely no follow-up.
You answer:
“What?”
And they say:
“Hi.”
Or worse…
Nothing.
They just wanted to confirm you still exist.
Meanwhile your nervous system has aged three years.
It Can Make You Feel Like You’re Losing It
This is the part many moms quietly carry.
Because being ignored, interrupted, challenged, and needed all day long can make you feel like:
you’re invisible
you’re failing
you’re the bad guy
you’re too angry
you’re not respected
you’re slowly losing your mind
And when it happens day after day?
It wears on you.
Not because you don’t love your family.
Because constant mental friction is exhausting.
You’re Not “Crazy.” You’re Overloaded.
There is a difference.
You are not insane because repeated disrespect frustrates you.
You are not unreasonable because being ignored is draining.
You are not a monster because eventually your patience runs out.
You are a human being carrying:
responsibility
mental load
constant demands
emotional regulation for everyone else
and trying to keep the house functioning
That would wear anyone down.
And Still… They Need Mom Most
Here’s the complicated truth.
Even when they ignore you…
Even when they push back…
Even when they drive you absolutely feral…
You are still their safe place.
That’s why they call for you. Need you. Default to you.
It doesn’t excuse the behavior.
But sometimes it explains the attachment behind it.
Final Thoughts From a Mom Repeating Herself Again
If you’ve ever felt like:
nobody hears you until you yell
Dad gets instant results
your name is being summoned 900 times a day
you’re one ignored request away from a breakdown
Please know:
You are not alone.
And no, you are not crazy.
You are overstimulated in a house that somehow needs you constantly while pretending not to hear you.
Momof2Boyz Reminder 💙
If you asked nicely ten times before raising your voice once…
You were patient far longer than anyone gives you credit for.
