By Momof2Boyz — Overthinking the small stuff since forever
We all have them.
Those weird little habits.
The oddly specific things we do that make absolutely no sense…
but we do them anyway.
Not because anyone asked us to.
Not because they’re necessary.
Just because somewhere in our brain, a switch flipped and said:
“This is how we do things now.”
And honestly?
I think mine might be a little ridiculous.
My Dog Water Quirk Makes No Sense
So here’s one of mine:
When I fill my dogs’ water dish…
I have to use the filtered water from the fridge.
Not the sink.
Not the tap.
Not “whatever is closest.”
Nope.
It has to be the cold, filtered, fancy fridge water like they are tiny furry house guests staying at a luxury resort.
Now, logically?
This makes absolutely no sense.
Because these same dogs will:
Eat mystery crumbs off the floor
Lick their own body parts like it’s a hobby
Try to eat grass, bugs, and random things they absolutely should not be eating
Drink from questionable puddles if given the opportunity
But for some reason…
Tap water is where I draw the line.
And I know that sounds ridiculous.
Because it is.
And Then There’s the “Crooked Picture” Problem
Here’s another one:
If something is crooked…
I cannot unsee it.
And once I notice it, it will absolutely bother me until it gets fixed.
At work, there are pictures hanging in the hallways.
And if one of them is:
tilted
off center
hanging slightly lower than the others
or just visibly “wrong”
It drives me absolutely insane.
I have to straighten it.
I don’t care if I’m just walking by.
I don’t care if I’m in a hurry.
I don’t care if nobody else in the building has noticed it for six months.
I noticed it.
And now it’s my problem.
The Worst Part? I Can Spot It Instantly
Some people can walk into a room and never notice that one frame is hanging a little off.
I am not those people.
My eyes will find it immediately.
Like some weird superpower I absolutely did not ask for.
And then I’ll spend the next however long mentally distracted by it until I either:
Fix it
Or leave the area and still think about it later
Because once my brain locks onto something being uneven, that’s it.
We’re all suffering now.
The Brain Logic Behind Quirks Is… Not Logical
That’s the funny thing about quirks.
They’re not based in reason.
They’re not:
Efficient
Always practical
Or even remotely consistent
They just exist.
Like your brain quietly decided:
“This matters to us for no clear reason.”
And now here you are, years later, fully committed to something weird like:
Needing to organize your snacks a certain way
Refusing to sleep unless your blanket is positioned just right
Rewashing a cup that was already clean because it “didn’t feel clean enough”
Turning the volume only to certain numbers
Talking to your pets like they’re coworkers
Straightening wall decor that has nothing to do with you
No explanation.
Just vibes.
And Honestly… I Kind of Love It
Because these weird little things?
They’re part of what makes us us.
They’re tiny windows into the very specific, slightly unhinged way our brains work.
And I think that’s kind of funny.
Maybe even comforting.
Because in a world where everything feels serious and heavy all the time…
There’s something weirdly human about having a completely irrational loyalty to one random habit.
Like yes, life is chaos.
But also:
“No, the dog can’t have sink water.”
“And no, that picture cannot stay crooked.”
Be serious.
The Best Part? Everyone Has Something
That’s what makes this fun.
Because every person has at least one weird little quirk that makes other people go:
“Wait… why do you do that?”
And the honest answer is usually:
“I have no idea.”
Which is somehow the best possible answer.
Some Quirks Are Just Silent Rules
And the funniest part is, some of us don’t even realize our quirks are weird until we say them out loud.
Like maybe in your head it’s completely normal to:
Eat one color of candy first
Refuse to use the “wrong” mug
Need the dishwasher loaded in a very specific way
Double check the lock even though you know you already checked it
Only drink water with the “good ice”
Secretly fix every crooked picture in public buildings
And then one day you casually mention it and realize…
Oh.
This might just be a me thing.
Life Is Better With a Few Weird Little Rules
Honestly?
I think we all need a few harmless quirks.
Little things that make life feel familiar.
Comfortable.
A little more “ours.”
Even if they don’t make sense.
Even if they’re slightly ridiculous.
Even if your dogs absolutely do not care where the water came from…
And even if nobody else noticed the crooked picture.
Final Thoughts From the Fridge Water & Frame Alignment Department
So yes…
My dogs get filtered fridge water like they’re tiny VIPs.
And yes…
If your wall decor is crooked, I am going to notice.
And no, I cannot fully explain either one.
But I know I’m not the only one walking around with weird little habits that make zero sense and 100% feel necessary.
So now I need to know…
Momof2Boyz Question of the Day 💙
What’s your weird little quirk?
The oddly specific thing you do that makes no sense…
but you absolutely refuse to stop doing.
Because honestly?
Those are my favorite things about people.
