By Momof2Boyz — Running on caffeine, guilt, and unanswered questions
I need to know something.
Where are these “super women” getting their energy from?
Because I see them.
Or at least… I think I do.
The moms who somehow seem to:
Wake up at 4 or 5 AM
Get themselves ready
Get kids ready
Go to work all day
Come home
Make dinner
Do laundry
Clean the house
Keep everyone alive
And somehow still function like a normal human being
And I’m over here like:
How??
No seriously.
How is that physically possible?
When Do They Rest?
That’s the part I can’t figure out.
When do they sit down?
When do they breathe?
When do they just… stop?
Because by the time I:
Wake up
Get through the workday
Fight traffic
Walk through the door
I’m already done.
Not:
“Let’s knock out the to-do list.”
More like:
“If nobody talks to me for 20 minutes, I might survive this evening.”
Do They Do This Every Night?
Like is this… nightly?
Because if so, I have questions.
And maybe mild concern.
I’m lucky if I can get one thing done after work.
One.
And even that usually comes with a tradeoff:
Clean the kitchen? Cool, but now laundry didn’t get done.
Start laundry? Great, but dinner is questionable.
Make dinner? Perfect, but now the house still looks like a tornado has legal residency here.
It’s always something.
Always.
The Dinner Struggle Is Real
Let’s talk about dinner for a second.
Because social media makes it look like everyone is over there serving:
Balanced meals
Fresh sides
Cute little plates
A family dinner that somehow isn’t stressful
Meanwhile over here?
Dinner is often:
Whatever’s in the cabinets
Whatever’s in the fridge
Whatever can be made the fastest
Whatever doesn’t require me to mentally collapse
And some nights?
If I’m being honest…
Dinner is junk.
Not because I don’t care.
But because by the time it’s late, everyone’s hungry, and I’m exhausted…
I’m just trying to survive the night.
The House Is Never “Done”
And the house?
The house is always one step away from looking like I’ve given up.
There is always:
Laundry that needs to be folded
Dishes in the sink
Something sticky somewhere
A pile of things that don’t belong where they are
At least one room I’m actively pretending not to see
I can clean…
But staying caught up?
That feels like a luxury for people who either:
Don’t have kids
Don’t have jobs
Secretly have a clone
So Then Comes the Guilt
And this is where it gets heavy.
Because after enough days of feeling behind…
You start wondering things like:
Am I just lazy?
Why can’t I keep up like other moms?
Why does everyone else seem to manage this better?
Why does my house feel one step from disaster all the time?
Why am I so tired?
And the worst one:
Am I failing at this?
Failing as a mom.
Failing as a wife.
Failing at keeping it all together.
The Lie We Keep Comparing Ourselves To
Here’s the truth I have to remind myself of:
A lot of what we see is the highlight reel.
We see:
The clean kitchen
The organized pantry
The meal prep
The folded laundry
The “I got this” energy
We do not always see:
The breakdown before it got cleaned
The fast food bag in the trash
The laundry pile just outside the frame
The exhaustion
The resentment
The mental load
We compare our real life to someone else’s best angle.
And that will mess with your head every time.
Do I Have the Right to Rest?
This is the question I keep coming back to:
Do I have the right to just rest?
To come home and not immediately launch into round two of the day?
To sit down without feeling guilty?
To not spend every ounce of myself proving I’m productive enough to deserve a break?
Because somewhere along the way, a lot of moms were taught that rest has to be earned.
And I think that’s a lie.
Sharing the Load Doesn’t Always Feel Equal
Even when responsibilities are shared…
Sometimes it still feels like the weight of making sure everything gets done somehow lands on you.
Because there’s a difference between:
Doing tasks
and
Carrying the mental list of all the tasks
And a lot of moms are carrying both.
The planning.
The remembering.
The noticing.
The anticipating.
The invisible labor that never really shuts off.
That kind of tired hits different.
Maybe You’re Not Lazy. Maybe You’re Just Tired.
What if the problem isn’t that you’re lazy?
What if the problem is that you are:
Overloaded
Overstimulated
Overextended
Undersupported
And expected to function like a machine
Because that sounds a lot more accurate than “lazy.”
Final Thoughts From a Mom Sitting Down Anyway
If you come home and all you have left is enough energy to:
Keep people fed
Get the kids through the night
Shower
Crawl into bed
That doesn’t make you lazy.
That makes you human.
And if your house is messy, dinner is random, and your to-do list is laughing at you from across the room…
You are still not failing.
You are just living in the reality a lot of us are too tired to admit out loud.
Momof2Boyz Reminder 💙
You do not have to be a super woman to be a good mom.
You do not have to do everything every night.
And wanting to rest does not mean you’re doing motherhood wrong.
Sometimes resting is the productive thing.
And honestly?
That’s the part more of us need permission to believe.
