Traffic Is Out of Control (And I’m Losing My Mind in My Car)

By Momof2Boyz — Currently stuck in lane 3, questioning life choices

I don’t know when it happened…

But traffic has officially gotten out of control.

What used to be a simple, predictable commute has turned into a full-blown daily event.

And not the fun kind.

The Commute That Keeps Growing

There was a time—not that long ago—when getting home from work took about an hour.

Manageable. Annoying, sure. But doable.

Now?

An hour and a half. Minimum.

Some days even longer.

And the most frustrating part?

Leaving earlier doesn’t even help anymore.

It’s Always Rush Hour Now

Remember when rush hour was… a time?

Like:

Morning rush hour

Evening rush hour

Now it feels like:

Rush hour is just… all the time.

No matter when you leave:

Early? Traffic.

On time? Traffic.

Late? Somehow… still traffic.

It’s like everyone is on the road, all day, every day, for no clear reason.

The Phone Zombies

And let’s talk about what makes it worse.

Because people are sitting in traffic for so long…

They get bored.

They get distracted.

They get on their phones.

And suddenly you’re surrounded by:

Cars drifting between lanes

People braking late

Drivers not paying attention

Which leads to the next problem…

Accidents That Make Everything Worse

It only takes one.

One distracted driver.

One sudden stop.

One bad decision.

And now:

Traffic slows to a crawl

Lanes shut down

Everyone’s commute gets even longer

So that hour and a half?

Now it’s pushing two.

Driving in the Dark (Both Ways)

Depending on the time of year, it gets even more ridiculous.

There are days where:

I go to work in the dark

I come home in the dark

And I’m just sitting there like:

“Did I even see daylight today??”

Survival Mode: Activated

At this point, commuting isn’t just driving.

It’s survival.

Some days I have to:

Blast music just to stay awake

Cycle through playlists like it’s my job

Switch to podcasts when my brain needs something else

Dive into audiobooks to feel like I’m doing something productive

Honestly…

I’ve spent so much time in the car, I’m pretty sure:

I know how to get away with murder (thanks, true crime podcasts)

I’ve heard every fantasy love story ever written

If it exists in audio form… I’ve probably listened to it in traffic.

The Mental Drain

It’s not just the time.

It’s the energy.

You leave work already tired…

Then sit in traffic for another hour and a half…

By the time you get home?

You’re done.

Not:

“Let’s cook, let’s relax, let’s be productive”

But:

“Let me sit down and not move for a while.”

The Question We’re All Thinking

At this point, I have one very real question:

When can we go back to telework??

Because we’ve already proven:

It works

It saves time

It saves sanity

And most importantly…

It gives people their time back.

Final Thoughts From the Driver’s Seat

If your commute has quietly turned into a second job…

If you’ve watched your drive time slowly creep up…

If you’ve caught yourself wondering:

“Why is this taking so long every single day?”

Just know…

You’re not imagining it.

Momof2Boyz Reminder 💙

You’re not just driving home.

You’re surviving the daily marathon that nobody asked for.

And if you’ve made it through another commute today…

That counts as a win.
