This is personal.
And before I go any further, I want to say clearly:
This is my experience.
It is not medical advice.
It is not a recommendation.
It is not a universal outcome.
If you are considering GLP-1 medication, please talk to your doctor and make sure it’s appropriate for your body and health history.
Now — here’s my story.
📏 Where I Started
I’m 5’7”.
At my heaviest, I weighed 210 lbs.
That was heavier than I was during either of my pregnancies.
And that realization hit me harder than the number itself.
I didn’t feel like myself.
I didn’t recognize my body.
And I knew I needed to do something different.
⚖️ The Weight Loss
After a year and a half on GLP-1 shots, I’ve lost 65 pounds.
That number still surprises me.
What’s interesting is that I haven’t added exercise into my routine. Due to back issues, intense workouts weren’t realistic for me.
The weight loss came mostly from eating less.
Because on the shots — I don’t really want to eat.
🍽️ The Appetite Shift (Good and Complicated)
One of the biggest changes has been appetite.
The constant “food noise” quieted.
I stopped:
-
Mindless snacking
-
Stress eating
-
Reaching for junk just because it was there
That part has been freeing.
But there’s another side.
Sometimes I don’t want to eat at all.
Not just snacks — full meals.
There are moments where I have to remind myself to eat because my body doesn’t signal hunger the way it used to.
And that can feel… strange.
Good in some ways. Concerning in others.
💧 The Dehydration I Didn’t Expect
Something I didn’t anticipate?
Not being hungry also made me not thirsty.
I’ve had to consciously remind myself to drink water.
I’ve realized I get dehydrated much easier now.
It’s not automatic anymore.
Hydration takes effort.
And that’s something I’ve had to learn the hard way.
🪞 The Changes I Didn’t Prepare For
Losing weight has brought up unexpected emotions.
Under my chin and into my neck, I’ve noticed excess skin. It’s wrinkly in a way I didn’t expect.
It makes me feel older than I am.
I’ve also noticed my hair has gotten thinner.
I don’t know if that’s from the medication.
Or from weight loss itself.
Or from age.
Or hormones.
I truly don’t know.
And that uncertainty can be unsettling.
You imagine weight loss being this one-direction glow-up.
But bodies are complex.
Sometimes you trade one insecurity for another.
🧠 The Emotional Side
This journey hasn’t just been physical.
It’s been emotional.
I’m proud of the weight loss.
I’m grateful for the progress.
I feel lighter — physically and mentally.
But I’ve also had to adjust to:
-
A new relationship with food
-
A new body shape
-
Unexpected physical changes
-
Listening to my body differently
It hasn’t been a straight line.
⚠️ Important Disclaimer
Again, this is my journey.
GLP-1 medications are serious prescriptions. They affect hormones, digestion, appetite, and metabolism.
They are not for everyone.
They come with potential side effects and risks.
If you’re considering them:
-
Talk to your doctor.
-
Discuss your medical history.
-
Ask about risks and long-term implications.
-
Make sure it’s medically appropriate for you.
What works for one person may not work for another.
💛 Where I Am Now
65 pounds down.
No added exercise due to back limitations.
Less junk food.
Less mindless eating.
More awareness.
But also:
More hydration effort.
Unexpected skin changes.
Thinner hair.
A body still adjusting.
It’s not perfect.
But it’s honest.
And I believe we need more honesty around these conversations.
