# Mother’s Day Looks Different for Every Mom

**By Momof 2Boyz** · 2026-05-10

Mother’s Day is supposed to be full of love, flowers, breakfast in bed, and sweet little handmade cards with crooked handwriting and way too much glitter. And honestly? Sometimes it really is all of those beautiful things. Sometimes it’s getting spoiled with coffee brought to you before you even get out of bed. Sometimes it’s sleeping in while someone else handles the chaos for once. Sometimes it’s finally hearing “Mom, sit down. I got it.”

And moms deserve that.

Being a mom is exhausting in ways people don’t always see. It’s the mental load, the constant planning, the worrying, the cleaning, the rides, the appointments, the late nights, the early mornings, and somehow still trying to be emotionally available for everyone around you. So yes — if you want the brunch, the gifts, the spa day, the fancy dinner, or just one uninterrupted shower, enjoy every second of it.

But here’s something people don’t talk about enough: not every mom loves Mother’s Day.

And that’s OK too.

For some moms, Mother’s Day can feel overwhelming, emotional, lonely, stressful, or even heartbreaking. Some are grieving mothers they’ve lost. Some are missing children. Some are struggling silently with infertility, postpartum depression, divorce, financial stress, or simply burnout. Some moms don’t want a packed restaurant and social media-perfect moments. Some just want peace and quiet.

Sometimes the greatest gift is silence.

Not in a sad way — in a healing way.

No fighting.

No touching every five minutes.

No “Mommmm!” from the other room.

No dishes.

No responsibilities.

Just a little quiet.

And honestly, that version of Mother’s Day is just as valid as the picture-perfect one.

There’s so much pressure these days to celebrate things the “right” way. Social media makes it seem like every holiday needs to look magical and perfectly planned. But motherhood itself is not one-size-fits-all, so why would Mother’s Day be?

Maybe your perfect day is:

Staying in pajamas all day

Ordering takeout

Spending time with family

Being completely alone for a few hours

Going shopping by yourself

Having a backyard BBQ

Taking a nap

Watching movies with your kids

Ignoring your phone entirely

Being spoiled rotten

Or pretending the day doesn’t even exist

However you celebrate — or don’t celebrate — is completely up to you.

At the end of the day, Mother’s Day should simply be about appreciating moms for who they are, not forcing them into some perfect version of motherhood that doesn’t exist anyway. Moms are loving, tired, emotional, strong, overwhelmed, patient, chaotic, selfless, funny, overstimulated, and human all at the same time.

So whether you’re spending the day surrounded by family, hiding in your room eating snacks in silence, or somewhere in between — Happy Mother’s Day.

You’re doing better than you think you are.
